Smart Audio Upgrade for Existing Opus System

The client had an existing Opus multiroom audio system that still worked but was effectively obsolete—no modern app control, no software support, and music playback limited to CDs. We integrated a WiiM streamer to bring modern, app-based control without replacing the entire system.

The Result

Modern music experience using existing hardware.

1

App-based control

Music control from phone or tablet via the WiiM app.

2

Whole-house audio

Same music throughout the house using existing speakers.

3

Streaming services

Access to modern music services replacing CD-only playback.

4

Low cost

Significant savings compared to full system replacement.

System Limitations

Due to the age and architecture of the Opus system, it operates as a single audio zone—same music throughout the house, or off. Individual room source selection is not possible, and the original Opus software is no longer available. These limitations were fully explained and accepted by the client.

Why This Solution Made Sense

No unnecessary hardware replacement

The existing speakers and amplification were still working. Replacing them would have added significant cost without improving the listening experience.

Minimal labour and disruption

The WiiM streamer connects to an existing input on the Opus system. No new cabling, no construction work, no extended installation time.

Extended system lifespan

Rather than scrapping functional hardware, the client gets continued use of their existing investment with modern control added.

Delivered exactly what was needed

The client wanted simple, app-based music control. This solution provides that without overengineering or upselling unnecessary features.
