Philips Hue – Our go-to Smart Lights

We recommend (and use ourselves) the Philips Hue range of smart lights.

No wiring to do, they come in a wide range of types from normal bulbs to light strips and downlights (not to mention the outdoor range and ambience ranges!) and have a range of accessories to go with.

I personally use them with the smart button switches as they give a way to physically control them without resorting to your phone or Alexa – and having tried ranges from Xiaomi, Yeelight and Lifx, am fully decking my house out with solely Hue bulbs.

The only negatives I can think of are that you need a hue bridge per 30 or so lights, and it takes a little bit of planning to get the scenes right and balanced between the bridges, but other than that they’re spot on.

As a starter – we like this hue kit:

3 white and colour bulbs, a hue bridge and two of the smart buttons (awesome way to control your setup, and usable by even the less tech savvy members of the family!). Everything you need to get up and running!

They’re not the cheapest bulbs in the market but the stuff that actually works usually isn’t!!
