Enterprise WiFi Across Four Burj Khalifa Apartments

A private family with multiple apartments in the Burj Khalifa tower wanted the same thing in each: the best possible WiFi, reliably maintained, professionally managed. We have now designed and installed four separate UniFi enterprise systems in this building, each coordinated with Emaar building management for infrastructure access.

Project Summary

Four Burj Khalifa apartments. Each fitted with UniFi enterprise WiFi on wired building-infrastructure backhaul. Emaar coordination required. Remote management included for all four.

The Challenge

Delivering enterprise-grade WiFi inside iconic high-rise tower apartments requires more than hardware selection — it needs building management coordination and access to infrastructure rooms.

High-Rise RF Environment

The Burj Khalifa is one of the world's most densely connected buildings. Hundreds of competing WiFi networks on every floor create extreme radio frequency congestion that consumer hardware cannot manage.

  • Extreme RF congestion
  • Multiple floors & units
  • Reinforced concrete structure
Why enterprise is essential

Building Infrastructure Access

To deliver wired backhaul to each apartment, we needed to work with Emaar building management to access the tower's network distribution rooms.

  • Emaar coordination required
  • Network room access
  • Building infrastructure switches
The coordination process

The Solution

UniFi enterprise WiFi in each apartment, connected via wired backhaul through the building's own infrastructure, centrally managed remotely.

Per-Room UniFi APs

Each apartment received UniFi enterprise access points in every room, with wired Ethernet backhaul ensuring full-speed independent coverage throughout.

  • Room-by-room AP coverage
  • Wired Ethernet to each AP
  • Enterprise roaming

UniFi Dream Machine Pro

Each apartment's network is anchored by a UniFi Dream Machine Pro, providing centralised routing, firewall management, and our remote monitoring.

  • UDM Pro per apartment
  • Remote monitoring
  • Advanced security features
Remote management

The Results

Four apartments delivering full-speed enterprise WiFi, maintained remotely, with consistent technical standards across all properties.

1

Building Coordination

Liaised with Emaar management for access to the tower's network distribution rooms and infrastructure cabling.

2

Infrastructure Switches

Installed dedicated network switches within the building infrastructure, establishing the wired backhaul path to each apartment.

3

Apartment Deployment

Installed per-room UniFi APs and UDM Pro cores in each apartment, individually optimised for each layout.

4

Remote Management

All four systems brought under remote monitoring and management for long-term proactive support.

WiFi in a Supertall Tower: The RF Reality

The Burj Khalifa presents one of the most complex residential WiFi environments in the world. The building houses thousands of residents and visitors simultaneously, and virtually every apartment runs at least one WiFi network. A passive scan from any apartment in the tower typically reveals 50-80 competing networks on 2.4GHz alone, and a similar density on 5GHz bands.

Consumer WiFi hardware — ISP routers, Google Nest, TP-Link Deco — is designed for typical suburban environments where a scan might reveal 5-15 competing networks. In a supertall tower, the automatic channel selection and power management algorithms in consumer hardware are overwhelmed. They cycle through channel selection trying to find clear spectrum, causing constant brief disconnections as they reconfigure, and often settle on sub-optimal channels that are heavily contested.

Enterprise WiFi hardware like UniFi uses a fundamentally different approach. Transmit power is manually configured to provide adequate signal within the apartment without unnecessarily radiating through concrete to neighbouring units. Channel selection is fixed after a professional site survey, not left to automatic algorithms. The access points use client isolation and targeted band steering to manage devices efficiently within the congested RF environment.

Building Coordination: Why This Is Essential

In a typical residential villa or apartment block, WiFi backhaul is achieved by running Ethernet cables within the unit's internal wall conduit. In the Burj Khalifa, this approach works for connections within the apartment but doesn't address the upstream link quality from the apartment to the building's internet distribution.

Each apartment in the tower is served by a distribution switch located in the building's network closet on that floor or a nearby riser. We worked with Emaar's facilities management team to gain authorised access to these distribution rooms, where we installed dedicated Ubiquiti switches to create a clean, high-speed wired backhaul path for each apartment. This eliminates the wireless segment entirely — from the apartment's uniFi gateway down to the building's internet core, every link runs over Cat6 copper.

The coordination process involved formal approval from Emaar, scheduled access times, and documentation of the work performed. For clients wanting enterprise-grade performance in the Burj Khalifa, this infrastructure coordination is a non-negotiable prerequisite — and one that typical consumer installers don't undertake.

Remote Management Across Four Properties

The client's brief was unambiguous: excellent WiFi, with no ongoing management burden on their part. Each apartment's UniFi Dream Machine Pro is enrolled in our remote management platform, allowing us to proactively monitor network health, apply firmware updates during low-traffic periods, address configuration drift, and diagnose issues before the client even notices them.

All four apartments are visible on a unified dashboard. If a unit in any apartment goes offline, or if we detect anomalous traffic patterns indicating a device issue, we receive an alert and can intervene remotely in minutes. For a family with four properties to manage, this removes the entire maintenance and troubleshooting burden from their daily life.
