Renovation Pitfalls

Renovations move fast. These are the most common infrastructure issues we see when the data side is treated as an afterthought.

Common Mistakes

Identifying the issues that lead to rework and poor performance.

No Conduit Routes

Failing to plan routes between floors or to the roof makes future upgrades nearly impossible without opening walls.

Insufficient TV Data

TV points with no data or only a single cable cannot support modern streaming and control requirements.

Poor AP Placement

Access points placed in corners or inside cupboards significantly reduce Wi-Fi range and performance.

Inadequate Cabinets

Network racks with no ventilation or power lead to equipment overheating and frequent failures.

Cable Interference

Running data cables alongside mains power without proper separation causes signal noise and instability.

Unlabelled Cabling

Cables left unlabelled before walls close turn simple maintenance into a guessing game.

Quick Checks Before Walls Close

Ensure your infrastructure is ready for the next phase.

  • Are all access point locations wired and reachable?
  • Do TV areas have at least two data points and a conduit?
  • Is the cabinet location accessible with dedicated power and airflow?
  • Has every cable run been tested and clearly labelled at both ends?

Pro Tip: Take photos of all open walls and ceilings showing the cable routes before the plasterboard goes up.
