KNX
An open-standard wired protocol for building automation. Industry-proven reliability for lighting, blinds, HVAC, and integrated control in premium homes.
Open-Standard Building Automation
KNX is a worldwide standard for home and building control, backed by over 500 manufacturers and used in millions of installations globally.
Unlike proprietary systems, KNX is an open protocol governed by the KNX Association. This means devices from different manufacturers work together seamlessly, and your system is never locked to a single vendor. In the UAE, KNX is commonly specified in new-build villas and high-end apartments where reliability and longevity are priorities.
Why KNX?
The case for an open, wired automation standard.
Open Standard
Not locked to one manufacturer. Choose devices from 500+ certified vendors, mix and match as needed.
Wired Reliability
Dedicated twisted-pair cabling means no WiFi interference, no battery changes, no wireless dropouts.
Decentralised Architecture
No central controller required. If one device fails, the rest of the system continues operating.
Built to Last
KNX installations commonly run for 20-30 years. The protocol has been stable since the 1990s.
What KNX Controls
A single protocol for multiple building systems.
- Dimming and switching
- Scene control via keypads
- Presence and daylight sensing
- Timed schedules and automation
- Motorised blinds and curtains
- Sun tracking and auto-shading
- Integration with lighting scenes
- Wind and rain sensors
- Room-by-room temperature control
- Fan coil and AC integration
- Occupancy-based setbacks
- Central scheduling
- Door entry and intercom
- Security system integration
- Audio/video system triggers
- Energy monitoring
When to Choose KNX
Understanding where KNX fits best.
- New builds and major renovations where cabling can be installed
- Long-term investments where system longevity matters
- Projects with multiple subsystems (lighting, HVAC, blinds)
- Clients who value open standards over proprietary ecosystems
- Retrofit without cabling access – wireless systems may suit better
- AV-first focus – Control4 offers tighter AV integration
- Smaller scope – simpler systems may not justify the investment
- DIY preference – KNX requires certified programming
No Cloud, No Subscription
Local operation without ongoing costs.
KNX operates entirely locally. There are no cloud servers, no subscription fees, and no internet dependency for day-to-day operation. Keypads, sensors, and actuators communicate directly over the KNX bus – your lighting and blinds work even if your internet is down.
Remote access and app control can be added via KNX IP gateways, but the core system never requires external connectivity to function.

Keypads & User Interface
Physical controls that last.
Wall Keypads
Premium keypads from Jung, Zennio, Vimar, and Tense. Tactile buttons for scenes, dimming, and blind control.
Touch Panels
Wall-mounted touchscreens for visualisation and control of the entire home.
App Control
Smartphone and tablet apps for on-the-go control, added via KNX IP integration.
Installation & Programming
A professional system requires professional setup.
KNX is programmed using ETS (Engineering Tool Software), the official configuration tool. Only certified KNX partners can properly commission a system. This ensures reliability but means DIY installation is not practical.
We handle design, cabling coordination, device selection, programming, and handover documentation. Post-installation changes and scene adjustments are straightforward once the system is commissioned.
