Infrastructure & Cabling

Every technology system depends on infrastructure. Wi-Fi, cameras, audio, and smart home platforms all rely on cabling and containment that are often hidden - and therefore overlooked.

The Reality of UAE Infrastructure
Infrastructure quality varies widely in the UAE. We regularly encounter older villas with early Cat5/Cat5e cabling, heat-degraded cables, and undersized conduits. Often, infrastructure doesn't need full replacement, but it does need proper assessment.

Cable Categories: What Actually Matters

For most residential properties in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Cat6 is more than sufficient. Installation quality matters far more than the cable category.

  • Cat5e: Often sufficient for gigabit speeds if terminations are good. No need to re-cable just to chase a higher category.
  • Cat6: Our default for all new work. Reliable and easy to route.
  • Cat6A/7/8: Frequently oversold. Harder to route and rarely beneficial in residential environments.

Network Rack Examples

Choosing the right size rack ensures your equipment stays cool, organized, and easy to maintain.

6U wall-mounted network rack
6U wall-mounted rack (compact apartments)
9U wall-mounted network rack
9U wall-mounted rack (small villas)
21U floor-standing network rack
21U floor-standing rack (medium villas)
42U full-height network rack
42U full-height rack (large villas or commercial)

Key Principles

  • No Extensions: Ethernet should run end-to-end without joins for maximum reliability.
  • Fibre Links: Useful for linking multiple cabinets or for very long distances in large properties.
  • Think Ahead: Running conduits and draw wires during renovation dramatically reduces future costs.
  • Mesh vs Infrastructure: Even mesh systems perform best with wired backhaul. If you can run cable, do it.
