Commercial Wi-Fi - Enterprise vs Business

Commercial Wi-Fi is often misunderstood, particularly in the UAE where fast internet connections are widely available but internal networks are frequently under-designed.

We regularly see offices in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and the Northern Emirates with excellent ISP speeds but unreliable internal Wi-Fi - dropped calls, poor roaming, and inconsistent performance under load.

Internet Speed Is Not the Bottleneck

A fast ISP connection does not guarantee good Wi-Fi. In commercial environments, performance is shaped by:

  • User density and device count
  • Access point placement and tuning
  • Wired backhaul (no mesh)
  • RF planning and interference management
Business Wi-Fi (Small Offices)

Appropriate where user numbers are limited and usage is predictable.

  • Small professional offices
  • Boutique businesses
  • Light administrative use
Enterprise Wi-Fi (Most Offices)

Required for seamless roaming, constant video calls, and high reliability.

  • Hybrid working environments
  • Shared or flexible workspaces
  • Retail and hospitality

Segmentation and Security

Traffic separation using VLANs is essential for both performance and security in commercial settings:

  • Staff: Full access to internal resources
  • Guest: Isolated internet access only
  • IoT/AV: Dedicated network for building systems
  • Security: Isolated path for cameras and access control
